For 14 years two friends shared an art journal together, and called it Z BOOK...
Now we want to share it with you. Z pages... and more...

week nine >> "post"

Beyond what seems to be a stamp collection, I feel this page~spread to be an ode to travel, to the stories and the stamps we choose to tell them with, to the post and the forgotten miracle the mail is, and to... stickers!

Our passion for stickers has a huge influence in all of ZBOOK (and in our others books). For all stickers out there, we also love recognizing all the unexpected stickers that show up in our lives in subtle ways. Stickers are everywhere! Such as the stickers that label fruit, the stickers that come on new clothes showing sizes, the stickers that stamps have become, and the sticker sheet left behind by the stickers lifted from it. You can see here, on the left, two small strips in parallel; these came off a stamp book, the edges from around the stamps. Same with the stickers in the bottom left corner, the "time to reorder, this block is not valid postage" stickers, which actually peel out in sticker rings- so cool. You will find non-trad stickers all over ZBOOK. ZBOOK definitely gave us a place to collect stickers again and beyond that, create with them (!) which is like a sweet gift for madly creative gleaners like us.

and one more note in week nine opening- deciphered from the blue ink on "post"...

"These people, places, visitings,
they fill my soul for FREE.

I send to you my thoughts, my sights...
I blow fresh wind your way.

You stand in here, you sit in here,
you sing in here, you stay."

ciao bella,

  1. dearie, are you still up? I was just about to ask you what a non-trad sticker was, when all of a sudden it came to me - silly traditional goose, i was concocting pictures of stickers with tred variations (like tires have tred... ha hah hah hah ha!)

    enjoy your fam!

  2. ahh.. just like a sticker fiend would, I so love you for it. how about a "don't tread on me" sticker, or a a rubber "tread-like" surface sticker, or what your reference above makes me think of, stickers that feature different tread pattern textile variations... oooh I would love to see those! well, guess we should make some! so these would be pro-tread vs. non-tread stickers... or trad-tread :)

  3. and thank you for gleaning your blue inked verse off this page to re"post" on this digital page... it is lovely to set it apart for a moment to deeply inhale it and then exhale as I once again gander on the page~spread of it's birthplace. I would love to also see this passage in its own post (on Zblog)... it deserves it's own spotlight, and would stands alone with grace and strength.

  4. this is a funny dialogue - thanks for helping with 'tread' distinction - and thank you for your kind words on the blue ink spew - i enjoyed adding it to the tail end of your post - I hope i didn't overstep - it needs re-working in my mind to be a 'stand alone' verse - and perhaps one moment i'll do that...
